ABOUT US:

        Chemistry was initiated in the year 2017 as an ancillary paper at Periyar University Constituent College, Idappadi. It was upgraded as the Department of Chemistry in year 2020 after the introduction of chemistry as a major subject, when the institution conferred Government college status. With a sanctioned strength of 40 students, the department is acquiring prominent position in the academic map of Salem. The department consists of well qualified, vibrant and dedicated faculties working hard to give their best to make every student achieve academic excellence.The core aim of the department is to provide broad understanding of chemistry, and learn to think critically and communicate effectively in oral and written forms. Students of the Department of Chemistry are motivated to participate in conferences/seminars/workshop to gain knowledge on the advancements in science and technology. The faculties of the Department of Chemistry are publishinggood quality research papers in peer reviewed journals with high citations and cumulative h-index.The Department of Chemistry has well-established laboratory pertaining to the curriculum and equipped with necessary facilities to carry out hands-on laboratory experiments for Major and Allied students.

VISION:

* To ignite and nurture enthusiasm, interests and passion towards the study of chemistry among the young aspirers from rural and remote sectors.
* Inculcate students with a more holistic view of chemistry through emphasis on its interdisciplinary nature by using specific examples to illustrate connections between chemistry and other science areas and the liberal arts.
* To prepare graduate students for academic, research and industrial careers by offering relevant circular inputs related to applied chemistry.
* Inculcate scientific temper and provide quality education by imparting deep knowledge in chemistry and significance of the various chemical phenomena’s.

MISSION:

* Provide chemistry majors with a strong fundamental background in the five major sub-disciplines of chemistry: organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry, and biochemistry with up-to-date coursework in each area.
* Provide students with relevant laboratory experiences designed to deepen their understanding of chemical principles, while simultaneously teaching students safe, responsible laboratory practices.
